RCD Espanyol – The Club

RCD Espanyol de Barcelona is one of the most ancient and important football clubs in La Liga. In 1900 Angel Rodríguez founded the Sociedad Española de Football, a club of university students keen to play a new sport that had recently been imported from England. After several small name changes, the club became Reial Club Deportivo Espanyol in 1912, when King Alfonso XIII bestowed the “royal” title upon the club. In 1928, Espanyol became a founding member of La Liga, and in 1929, the team won their first Copa del Rey. Espanyol has completed the highest number of seasons in La Liga without actually winning the title!

The team has qualified nine times for the UEFA Cup and reached the final twice. From 1923 until 1997, Espanyol played their home games in Estadi de Sarrià in the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi district of Barcelona. In 1997, they moved to the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys on Montjuïc and in 2009 they moved again this time into the newly constructed, extremely impressive, stadi Cornellà-El Prat in Cornellà de Llobregat.

RDC Espanyol Training Facilities

We use a combination of the the RCD Espanyol Ciudad Deportiva Dani Jarque and other high quality satellite training complex. The complex plays host to all the club’s representative teams – from the very youngest to the first team. The reserve team and youth team also play their home league fixtures here. The complex is located 10 km away from Estadi Cornellà-El Prat, and has 2 natural grass pitches, 3 artificial pitches and 1 training area goal-keepers. Unfortunately due to its size the RCD Espanyol training complex is often fully booked over the weekend with reserve, youth team and academy fixtures.

Malaga Tourist Information

Málaga is a port city on southern Spain’s Costa del Sol, known for its high-rise hotels and resorts jutting up from yellow-sand beaches. Looming over that modern skyline are the city’s 2 massive hilltop citadels, the Alcazaba and ruined Gibralfaro, remnants of Moorish rule. The city’s soaring Renaissance cathedral is nicknamed La Manquita (“one-armed lady”) because one of its towers was curiously left unbuilt.
